Program Outcomes

The continent of Africa is one of the least taught of the world's geographical areas. It's teaching is blurred by stereotypical images. As a result, the two-week high school summer program is intended to offer a more accurate view of Africa's history, modern issues, and future. Students learn of the African culture through interactive study of African language, dance and music. In addition, University of Florida professors offer presentations about African history, geography, politics, culture, art and dance.

By the end of the program students should be able to:

• Identify the fundamentals of Swahili language.
• Make and respond to basic greeting and introduction.
• Use a few basic words and expressions.
• Use numbers to ask/describe the quantity of things.
• Listen, read and comprehend phrasal and simple sentence length texts.
• Explain the major issues related to contemporary Africa.
• Describe the second largest continent and its global impact.
• Dicuss the University of University of Florida and its student application process.
