Frequently Asked Questions

If you are wondering how the application process works, why you should apply to the MDP program, how to apply for a student visa or even how to find a place to live follow the links below for answers.

Who should apply?

We are looking for dedicated individuals who are highly motivated to tackle challenging development problems. You should have a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and field experience is preferable but not a prerequisite.

Why should you be interested?

If you are currently involved in some aspect of development, the MDP will allow you to become part of a new generation of development specialists who are analyzing and responding to development challenges of the 21st century. By completing the MDP at UF you will join a global network of development specialists who will pioneer innovative responses to critical development challenges, including poverty alleviation, climate change, disease control, natural resource governance, and sustainable housing.

What will it cost?

Tuition and fees at the University of Florida are some of the lowest amongst US public universities, and living costs in Gainesville are also low relative to other cities in the US. In-state tuition and fees for graduate students book scholarships, available to nationals from Latin America or the Caribbean, allow scholarship recipients to be charged the lower in-state rate. In addition, we will continue to seek scholarship funds from foundations and other sources. Our goal is to have at least 30% of MDP students from Africa and Latin America.
