Daniel McQuillan
MDP Degree, Certificate in Tropical Agriculture, 2012

"Upon making the decision to return to school after a couple of years in the field, I began to look for a program which would provide me with exposure to a broad cross section of disciplines while also enabling me to gain the practical skills requisite for on-the-ground international development work. The MDP at UF allowed me to deepen my knowledge in a chosen field, tropical agriculture, while also providing me with more breadth through a variety of theoretical and practical skills courses in the health, natural, and social sciences. I spent my practicum in the Ecuadorian Amazon developing a project proposal for a small NGO, and on my return I worked with my adviser and other core faculty members to develop my field work into a report which reflected the interdisciplinary and blended (practical and theoretical) nature of the degree program. The UF faculty and staff were engaging, and willing to provide one on one support throughout the program. I would recommend the MDP to any individual interested in a career in project management in the multi-faceted field of international development."
