The UF MDP builds solid disciplinary competencies but also emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach that integrates theory, practice and skills training. The 5-semester MDP combines discipline-specific foundational courses with elective courses and integrative seminars as follows:

Ten foundational courses provide disciplinary competency within the natural, social and health sciences and management.

Skills training including communication and leadership skills, participatory planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting skills (linked to the field experience). Professional development is centered on an intense summer field program in Southern Africa or Latin America.

Four elective courses in a selected specialization, which they can use to get an additional certificate in any of a dozen different areas. Click here to view some suggested certificates for MDP students

Retreats each semester reinforce inter-disciplinary bridges across the four foundational areas.
