Foreign Language & Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships

Summer 2013 FLAS Fellowships

Summer fellowships provide students with an opportunity to undertake intensive African language study in any USDE approved program. In summer 2013, the Center will offer a domestic intensive African language program in Akan/Twi, Hausa, Swahili, Wolof, Yoruba, & Zulu on the University of Florida campus as part of the African Languages Initiative Program (AFLI).

Summer fellowships cover tuition and fees at the host institution (up to $5000) and provide a stipend of $2,500. Travel awards may also be available. The statement of purpose accompanying the application for a summer fellowship should indicate why summer study is desired and how it will contribute to the candidate's program of study. Applicants must also provide specific information on the program they wish to attend, i.e. fees, contact hours, instructor qualifications, etc.

Please complete the application and provide 3 letters of recommendation. Current FLAS students must also include a letter from their language instructor.

Application Deadline: February 11, 2013
