Foreign Language & Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships


Academic Year Fellowships 2012-2013


Fellowships provide a stipend of $15,000 per academic year and cover the cost of tuition and fees (12 credits per semester) and are offered for any one of the regularly taught languages (Akan, Amharic, Arabic, Portuguese, Swahili, Xhosa, Wolof, and Yoruba) as well as for other African languages for which instruction can be arranged. Applicants must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States and be admitted to a graduate program at the University of Florida.

Successful applicants will show:

* Clear promise of completing a graduate degree with a concentration in African language and area studies
* A plan to pursue field research in Africa using the language of study
* An excellent academic record as demonstrated by course grades, GRE scores, and strong recommendations

Please complete the application and provide 3 letters of recommendation. Current FLAS students must also include a letter from their language instructor.
