SUMMER 2008 FLAS FELLOWSHIPS

Summer fellowships provide students with an opportunity to undertake intensive African language study in any USDOE approved program. In summer 2008, UF will offer Akan on its campus. There is some possibility that other languages may be offered as well.

Summer fellowships cover tuition at the host institution and provide a stipend of $2,500. Travel awards may also be available. To apply, follow the same procedure as above.

Students applying for an academic year fellowship and for a summer intensive fellowship should submit two separate applications. The statement of purpose accompanying the application for a summer fellowship should indicate why summer study is desired and how it will contribute to the candidate's program of study. Applicants must also provide specific information on the program they wish to attend, i.e. fees, contact hours, instructor qualifications, etc.

Note: For information on African languages offered during the summer at the Summer Cooperative African Language Institute (SCALI) as well as at other universities in the US and overseas, application procedures, and funding information, please see the SCALI homepage.

Application Deadline: February 11, 2008
