DWG

The Development Working Group and the Center for African Studies organize a Roundtable Discussion titled “On the Ground: Perspective on Fieldwork in Africa” on Monday, November 23rd from 12:45 to 3pm. Room 404 in Grinter.

This event aims to promote an open and fruitful dialogue among social scientists from different backgrounds who have carried out research in various parts of Africa. We want to exchange ideas and experiences, and learn from one another. The event format will leave plenty of time for questions from the floor. All interested faculty and graduate students on campus are welcome to participate, whether you are from the social sciences or not, and whether your interest is on Africa or on any other part of the developing world. Come and share your questions and experience with us!

Roundtable Speakers:
- Dr. Jonathan Kaminsky (Agricultural Economist, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem)
- Dr. Julie Silva (Economic Geographer, Department of Geography and Center for African Studies)
- Dr. Alyson Young (Medical Anthropologist, Department of Anthropology)

- Asking the right research questions
- Using research methods from multiple disciplines
- Common challenges in the field and lessons learned
- Strategies for being flexible
- Making research relevant to the populations you work with

Moderated by:
