News & Events

The Center for African Studies maintains a dynamic, interdisciplinary set of events open to the UF community and the general public. Our Friday afternoon Baraza lecture series features speakers from around the world, addressing critical aspects of African Studies. The Students in African Studies Association (SASA) lunchtime seminars offer a more informal arena for discussing preliminary research results and local presentations of conference papers. The Modern African Cinema series is a collaboration with the Alachua County Library District that screens one feature film each month from the UF Library’s Africana collection. CAS also regularly sponsors a variety of conferences, workshops and symposia targeting various issues in contemporary Africa. Please see out semester events calendar for details.
