African Studies

WELCOME

The 2007 Gwendolen M. Carter Lectures on Africa will address the continent's vibrant visual expressions, encompassing diverse media, cultural contexts, and disciplinary approaches. The Carter Lectures are planned in conjunction with the 14th Triennial Symposium on African Art, a major international conference that brings together art historians, historians, artists, anthropologists, collectors, and students from throughout North America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Africa. The Carter Lectures will consist of three panels of presentations by University of Florida faculty from diverse disciplines. The Carter Lectures panels will also feature distinguished Carter Visiting Fellows, each of whom is an eminent African artist or scholar whose work complements and expands upon the panel themes.
